Do you want to know how to show seconds on the Mac clock on the menu bar’s right side? If yes, then you are at the right place. By default, the digital clock on the menu bar shows time in HH: MM format only. But if you want to see time precisely on your Mac clock with seconds, you can change the format to HH:MM:SS.

In this article, we will tell you how to change the time format of your clock on different Mac OS.

How to Show Seconds on Mac Clock (Sonoma and Ventura OS)?

If you are an old Mac User, you probably know that many setting locations have been changed in the Sonoma and Ventura OS updates. The same has happened with the clock settings as well.

The method to enable seconds in the clock on Mac OS Sonoma differs from Mac OS Big Sur.

If you are running Mac OS Sonoma and want to add seconds to the Mac clock on the menu bar, follow these steps:

    1. Open System Settings by clicking the apple icon on the left side of your menu bar. You can open the system settings using Spotlight as well.
      Open System Settings

    2. Now, on the left side, find Control Centre and click on it.
    Control Centre

    3. In Control Centre Settings, scroll down to the bottom and click on Clock Options.

    Clock Options

    4. Enable Display the time with seconds and click on Done.

    Show seconds on Mac

Now, you will be able to see seconds as well when viewing time on the menu bar clock of your Mac. This method will work for all Macbooks running on Mac OS Sonoma and Venture.

Add Seconds to Mac Clock running on Monterey, Big Sur

If your Mac is running on Mac OS Monterey or OS before that, the above method to show seconds on Mac Clock won’t work for you.

Here is how to show seconds on the Mac clock on older Mac OS:

    1. Open system preferences by clicking on the apple icon from the menu bar.
    2. Next, click on Dock and Menu Bar.
    3. Find the Clock Option on the left panel by scrolling down to the bottom and then clicking on it.
    4. In the Clock Settings, tick on Display the time with seconds.
    5. Now click on Done.

Now when you take the cursor to the menu bar, you will be able to see the time with seconds on the clock on your Mac.

Add Clock Widget to Notification Center

Some people want to show the seconds on the Mac clock but find the seconds in the menu bar clock irritating.

If you are one of those persons, then you can add an analog clock that will show seconds in the notification center.

Here is how to show seconds on the Mac clock in the notification center:

    1. Open the notification center by clicking on the top right corner of your screen. You can also open the notification center by scrolling left on your trackpad with two fingers.
    2. Now scroll to the bottom of the notification center and click on Edit Widgets.
    Edit the widget

    3. Next, click on Clock from the left panel.

    4. Select the clock design that you like and drag it to a place where you want it to be.

    Press done

Thats it. You have added the clock widget to your notification center. Now, whenever you want to see time with seconds on your Mac, you can see it from the notification center.

    Conclusion

Changing the time format to show seconds on your Mac is quite easy. In this article, we have shown how to show seconds on Mac Clock on different OS versions.

We also discussed how to add an analog clock to see seconds from the notification center if you don’t want to add seconds in the menu bar.

I hope this article has helped you. If you still face any issues while adding seconds to your clock, you can write your doubts in the comment section. We would be happy to help you out.
